University of California, Irvine
WASC Reaccreditation Process
UC Irvine is fully accredited by the Senior Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, California's regional accrediting agency. The campus was reaccredited in 2001 and is currently preparing for its next review in 2012. Being accredited means that the campus has met rigorous standards for quality, capacity and effectiveness. Only accredited institutions can administer federal student financial aid.
Reaffirmation of accreditation is a multi-year, self-study process that formally engages the campus in institution-wide reflection on capacity and educational effectiveness. The first stage is the development of the Institutional Proposal which was submitted and approved in Fall 2009, the second stage is the Capacity and Preparatory Review in Spring 2011, and third stage is the Educational Effectiveness Review in Fall 2012.
UCI has selected three themes as the focus of the review process:
Theme 1. Student Learning in the Major
Theme 2. General Education
Theme 3. Academic Program Review

The purpose of this Website is twofold: to inform the campus about reaccreditation plans and progress, and to document the review process for WASC and the external reviewers. We will be adding additional information to the Website as it becomes available, so please check back frequently. For questions or feedback, please send your comments to wasc@uci.edu
